Griffin started shaping at age 15 in his parent's backyard in Long Beach, CA. His desire to make a career out of his shaping hobby led him to get a job at a local glass shop in Costa Mesa, CA. It was here that he learned the complete surfboard building process and met his mentor Bruce Jones.
Bruce took Griffin under his wing at a young age and spent several years working closely as an apprentice. They eventually moved their operation and began working together out of the Waterman's Guild factor in Santa Ana, CA. While working there, he continued to hone his craft and began shaping for various surfboard companies in Orange County.
Today, he's shaped over 10,000+ surfboards and continues to work out of his shaping bay at Waterman's Guild—using the skills of his legendary mentor each day.
